The John Thomson Memorial Committee (JTMC) was founded in 1983 to promote the memory of John Thomson in his home town of Cardenden as well as the surrounding area. We are committed to improving the quality of life for people, especially youngsters, in our community. We will achieve this through the annual primary school football tournament which is open to all boys and girls, irrespective of background or ability in Cardenden and surrounding villages. Football coaching sessions will be used to encourage the young people to participate in sporting activities as part of a healthy lifestyle as well as giving them the opportunity to hone their skills, dedicate some of their leisure time to team pursuits and allow them to maximise their potential. They will also be encouraged to demonstrate a sense of fair play, sportsmanship and to treat others as they would like to be treated themselves. Through sport, education, drama and song, the JTMC will keep John’s name alive as a positive role model for all in our community. The upkeep of John's headstone and surrounds will be done on a regular basis. On a wider social scale JTMC will promote the John Thomson story by written and internet based literature that will be available to all and will be instrumental in the campaign to have John included in the Scottish Football Museum’s Hall of Fame. JTMC actively supports the need for improvement in sporting and social facilities for our community and has aspirations to have a new sports arena suitable for varied sports and recreational use built in Central Fife and named in John Thomson’s memory.
